Arten Science has announced that its MonitorMyMac software will now be offered as a free download. The application can be set up to take timed images, which can be stored locally or uploaded to an FTP server or MobileMe account. MonitorMyMac is capable of capturing screenshots of a user’s desktop, pictures from the webcam, or simultaneous captures from both sources. By automatically uploading pictures to online storage, users allow themselves to monitor a computer via an iPhone, notebook, or any web-enabled device.
Video chat engine released for iPhone
A new video chat technology for use in iPhone applications has been released by Global IP Solutions. With the GIPS VideoEngine Mobile, developers can add real time video chat or multi-point video conferencing functionally to their apps, without worrying about issues related to IP networks. The company claims its video engine can overcome typical mobile constraints such as packet loss, bandwidth constraints, and lip synchronization, while providing high quality voice regardless of network conditions.
